Why is JLG
®
Ground Support offering this new technology?
JLG is committed to helping our customers manage assets and control costs. As a remote connected asset management tool, ClearSky technology delivers a solution that helps customers minimize equipment downtime.
What makes ClearSky® connected asset technology different from other
telematics solutions that have been in the market?
JLG customized this solution for the off-road equipment industry. In addition to providing engine hours and location, the ClearSky technology solution enables remote machine diagnostics and a view of key health indicators in addition to numerous other features not previously available.
How does data get transmitted?
Each machine will have installed a Tele-Communications Unit (TCU) box and GPS antennae. The location of the machine is determined via satellite by the GPS antennae. Machine data is transmitted via cell technology (GSM/GPRS). All transmissions are routed through a data center and are available for instantaneous viewing.
Has the ClearSky technology been tested?
Yes. ClearSky has been tested in both domestic and international markets. ClearSky has helped achieve impressive savings in time and money. It was also viewed as “user friendly” because of the use of the Online Express portal.
Is this only for new products purchased from the factory?
Clearsky® is offered on JLG new-production, UGM units, combustion booms & 150HAX. Clearsky offered as a machine option was implemented in September 2009 for models after the last major software revision level (approximately mid-2004).
For Models: 400S, 450A, 460SJ, 510AJ, 600A, 600S, 800A/AJ, 800S/SJ, 740AJ and 600SC, customers must identify the ground module prior to ordering Clearsky installation kit. Units with ground module part number 16600312 and 1600327 will need to upgrade to ground module part number 1600364 to be compatible with Clearsky.
How do I get alerts?
Alerts can be sent to cell phones, pagers, BlackBerries or docked computers (email).
How does ClearSky help save me money?
• Service calls avoided from remote troubleshooting
• Machine swaps diminished due to uptime guarantees
• Multiple service calls deflected by directing personnel with appropriate tools, parts and training
• Rental avoidance (increased rental revenues)
- Customers calling machines off-rent and continuing to use
- Customers using machines beyond contract (overtime: weekends, over 8 hours per day)
- Pre-lien rights reserved
• PMs grouped and done on schedule (early is additional cost, late could lead to component issues)
• Avoiding transport of machines to meet rental guarantee turn-arounds
What type of information does the system provide?
• GPS tracking
• Machines breaking the designated Geofence
• Machine diagnostics from Control and Engine CAN BUS (ClearSky Gold only)
• General machine information
- Engine running
- Date and time
- Engine temperature
- Engine oil pressure
- Total engine/machine run hours
- Fuel rate and total fuel used (not available on Deutz engine powered machines)
- All real time faults and alarms
- Defined snapshot intervals
• Machine operation status
• Mapping – location, machines in operation, machines with faults, machines
nearing maintenance intervals
• Reports and charts of machine usage and faults incurred
• Daily fault code report and fault code summary (weekly and monthly)
What types of service plans are available?
How is service started?
Once ClearSky Service is initiated with a signed subscriber agreement in advance, the customer can activate their service by contacting ClearSky support by phone, email or fax. (The customer administrator can access the Web Center and activate any TCUs to which they have visibility.) Units installed at the factory can be activated prior to shipment, but for International shipments, this will likely occur after PDI by JLG or upon delivery to the customer (up to 72 hr. lag). For field installs, the installer will activate the unit within 72 hours after the installation.
ClearSky technology is backed with a 12 month warranty that starts when the airtime
service is activated.
What is the cost?
The cost for the TCU, antennae and harness is a one-time fee. Monthly airtime charges also apply. There are 2 packages to choose from. Contact your JLG representative
Will a cost be incurred every time data is available?
We leverage the TCU's memory to minimize transmissions and charge a flat monthly fee rather than a confusing, constantly varying bill by bytes used.
How will I be billed?
If you choose ClearSky as an option, the cost of the hardware will be invoiced with the machine. The airtime will be billed in advance in 1-year, 3-year and 5-year packages.
